Top five things to do this weekend
TE RAPA CHRISTMAS AT THE RACES
Never fear, the races are here... again. Last weekend's event attracted a crowd of 10,000 to the Te Rapa Racecourse. This Saturday's event is a much more relaxed atmosphere, with a $5 entry fee for adults. It will still be a fun way to spend the last Saturday before Christmas. The gates open at 10am and races begin at 12.40pm. There'll be live music on the lawn and a bouncy castle and face-painting for the kids.
CENTRAL SUMMER MOVIE AND MARKET
Summer in Garden Place is really getting underway with its second event, a movie and market night on Friday. There will be stalls selling food and crafts from 5.30 - 9.30pm plus a screening of The Avengers at 9pm. So grab that picnic blanket and head along. La Rosa Latin Pastries will be selling tasty Latin treats. It's Christmas, indulge a little.
TREES AT THE METEOR
It's the final weekend to see all the fabulous trees created for the sixth annual event at The Meteor. It's open 7pm - 10pm. Entry is $5 entry or $15 for the family - two adults, two children family. All the proceeds are donated to charity and there is also a bonus show on Saturday from 10am - 2pm. Check out this year's winner.
CHRISTMAS BY CANDLELIGHT
Trinity Voices, Auckland Cathedral of the Holy Trinity's eight-part vocal ensemble conducted by Timothy Noon are performing a 2013 Christmas concert this Friday at St Peter's Cathedral, Hamilton. There will be a chance to sing some carols too. Starts at 7.30pm. For ticket information, click here.
TAMAHERE COUNTRY MARKET
It's the final market of the year and it's going to be a rippa. The market is fully booked so head on down and get those last minute Christmas presents pr just treat yourself silly. 8am to 1pm - be there or be square.
This is the final top five things to do for 2013 as I'm off to be a beach bum for a couple of weeks. It's a hard life, I know, but someone has to do it. I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and New Year. Enjoy and stay safe.
