BALLOONS OVER WAIKATO, THE NIGHT GLOW
If you've been keeping an eye on the sky this week, you may have noticed a hot-air balloon or two. That's because its Balloons Over Waikato and and the festival's highly anticipated night glow is happening this Saturday. The inaugural glow will take place at the University of Waikato. The main event is scheduled to take place between 7.45pm and 8.30pm, followed by fireworks. However, five decades of music will be played from 4pm to mark the university's 50th anniversary.

THE GREAT PUMPKIN CARNIVAL
Oversized pumpkins of all shapes and size will be on display at the Rhododendron lawn. Hamilton Gardens, on Sunday between 10am and 2pm at the pumpkin carnival. Last year's winning pumpkin was a whopping 577 kilograms. The mind boggles at what this year's crop has produced. FIGHT THE POWER: PROTEST AND CHANGE 1990-1990
An exhibition of photographs and memorabilia at the Waikato Museum is opening on this Saturday. It examines the power of activism and protest movements that swept the country - and Waikato in particular - during the 1970s and '80s. WHANGAMATA BEACH HOP 2014
Whangamata has been overrun with cars off all kinds for the annual Beach Hop. Saturday and Sunday's highlights include Meguiars Main Street Car Show and the Nostalgia Fair Auto Trade and Swap Meet. For a full list of the weekend's activities, click here.
THE GREAT NZ MUSTER
Te Kuiti's Running of the Sheep is on this Saturday, 10am to 4pm on Rora St. There will be live entertainment, stalls and a much for to see and do. It would make a nice family day. This year's event will be run a bit differently to past events, with smaller mobs of sheep.
