For 24 years the replica paddle steamer Waipa Delta plied the waters of the Waikato River from its Hamilton base, giving thousands of people the chance to see the city from the river.

In its last years things didn't go too well and in June 2009 she upped anchor for the last time and sailed downstream to Port Waikato, out into the Tasman Sea, up the coast, around Cape Reinga and down to Auckland.

Thing's didn't go too well there either and earlier this year she set sail for Thames, where she was hauled out of the water and prepared for a road trip to her new home in Taupo.

Hopefully things go better there.

Here's a shot taken when the Waipa Delta first arrived in Hamilton from Tauranga in November 1985, stopping traffic in Hamilton East as she made her way to the Wellington St beach, where she was launched.
