Wanted man is dangerous, police say

Police are hunting a man wanted in relation to alleged violent domestic assaults and are appealing for the public's help to track him down.

He is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Detective Sergeant Kristine Clarke of the Hamilton CIB said a warrant to arrest 34-year-old Blaine Tuawawa Maihi had been issued in relation to an alleged breach of home detention in Opotiki earlier this month.

"Waikato Police are also seeking Maihi in relation to alleged serious domestic related assaults against a woman in Hamilton over a period spanning May 7-17," she said.

"A male Maori about 1.8metres tall and of solid to fat build, Maihi is believed to be actively avoiding police and is thought to be driving a green 1995 Subaru Legacy station-wagon, registration number CMM831."

Clarke said anyone who saw Maihi was asked not to put themselves at risk but to phone 111.

"Maihi has been described as acting irrationally and being unstable," she said.

"Police consider him to be dangerous and reiterate he should not be approached. If you have information on his whereabouts please make contact with Hamilton Police on 07 858 6200.
