The chainsaws have been getting a good workout in Flagstaff this week as scores of roadside trees in the suburb have been cut down as part of a Hamilton City Council maintenance programme.

Council staff say the trees are being cut down because of damage their roots are doing.

Already a number of residents have contacted the Waikato Times to voice their disapppointment at the move.
