Cold snap may bring more snow
Temperatures were well below freezing this morning when Waikato folk were making their morning coffee.
Snow on the Kaimai Ranges, which fell overnight on Monday, could still be seen cloaking the peaks early this morning.
Hamilton dipped to -4 degrees Celsius at 6am this morning and -1.3 Celsius in Paeroa, says MetService meteorologist John Law.
''I don't think the snow would have gone anywhere,'' Law says. ''There was a high of 6 degrees yesterday on the Kaimais and that's at about 400m to 500m.''
Law said showers would be needed to generate more snow.
''You've got that cold south-westerly still coming through and showers have been sticking to the easwtern side of the country and towards Northland.''
Law said another clear day in the Waikato will lead into another ''clear, cold night''.
Showers are expected in Hamilton later in the week, and with cold front still coming up from the south Law said more frosts are in store, with a chance of more snow.
