Police are yet to confirm whether young children witnessed the stabbing of a man in Te Aroha on Wednesday night.
The 31-year-old victim was today in a stable condition in Waikato Hospital.
A 41-year-old Te Aroha woman yesterday appeared in the Hamilton District Court charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Matamata-Piako Detective Sergeant Rod Carpinter said the man was stabbed after an argument with his partner erupted about 7.30pm at their Hamilton St home.
Both had been drinking and were holding a party at the house. Several adults and two children – aged one and two – were present.
"Police are now working with Child Youth and Family and other extended family to ensure the safety of other family members of this household," Mr Carpinter said.
Officers were yet to confirm who saw the attack, he said.
"It's a bit early to say but it doesn't appear as though children have seen it.
"We're yet to establish what exactly has occurred."
Officers hoped to interview the victim last night. BELINDA FEEK
