Soldier killed in explosives exercise at Waiouru

A soldier has been killed and another injured during a military explosives exercise in the central North Island.
The Defence Force said the incident occurred in a training area at Waiouru Military Camp and involved work with explosives.
The injured soldier was taken to hospital.
Representatives from the force, along with police, are investigating the incident and further details are likely to be released this afternoon.
Squadron leader Kavae Tamariki said the dead man's next of kin were being advised of the incident and his name would not be released until then.
Defence Force chief Jerry Mateparae was delivered the news during a select committee briefing, Radio New Zealand reported.
