A 40-year-old man is dead after being crushed by a bulldozer while working on a Paeroa property yesterday afternoon.

The man, who was a contractor, was thrown off his bulldozer before being crushed on the Old Reservoir Rd, Karangahake property about 1.35pm.

A fire service spokesman said the man was moving logs when he was flipped off the bulldozer, then trapped underneath it when it landed down a bank.

Fire crews with rescue equipment from Thames and Hamilton were called to help, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters used airbags to lift the bulldozer off the man.

Police and the Labour Department are also investigating.
