Police have arrested two men alleged to have held customers at gunpoint during a violent armed robbery of the Chartwell Kiwibank late last year and aren't ruling out further arrests.
Yesterday armed police surrounded two Hamilton houses – one in Shakespeare Ave, Enderley, and another in Jebson Pl, Hillcrest – arresting two men they believe responsible for the December 5 robbery.
The robbery featured prominently in the Waikato Times after security cameras captured a photo of a customer having a gun thrust into his face.
A 21-year-old man at the Shakespeare Ave house was arrested, while a 24-year-old man was arrested at the Jebson Pl house.
The two men arrested face charges of aggravated robbery and Detective Sergeant Robbie Hermann would not rule out further arrests.
A firearm police believe may have been used in the robbery was recovered at the Shakespeare Ave house.
Mr Hermann said a "high level of violence" was used in the robbery, with threats made to customers and staff.
One of those involved had a firearm and held it in people's faces, ordering the 12 or so customers to lie down on the floor while another demanded cash from a teller.
