A man was found lying semi-conscious in a pool of blood outside Hamilton's Downtown Plaza this morning.
He was discovered by police officers called to the scene after CCTV camera operators noticed something amiss about 4am.
They found documents, sunglasses, and a pair of jandals on the walkway along the north face of the council building and then found the semi-conscious man slumped against the doors of an after-hours toilet.
It's the second incident in the area in two days. On Tuesday night a man suffered moderate injuries after being hit by a car, then robbed, on Anglesea St, near the intersection of Caro St.
Detective Sergeant Mark Greene of the North Hamilton CIB said police were yet to interview the man injured today and were unsure of exactly what happened.
The man was treated at the scene by ambulance staff for a wound to the back of his head. He was taken to Waikato Hospital where he was sedated.
"We know he had been drinking before this but don't know if he's stumbled and sustained the head injury, which was about 5cm long, or if he has been the victim of foul play," Mr Greene said.
The man still had his wallet when he was found.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mr Greene at Hamilton police on 07 858 6200. Information can be left anonymously on the Crimestoppers crimeline 0800 555 111.
