A Hamilton man who assaulted a partygoer during a riotous teen party lashed out after he was hit by a bottle, the Hamilton District Court was told.
Dennis Darryl Paekau, 47, a truck driver, was yesterday convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon in the next nine months after earlier pleading guilty to assault.
Paekau was supervising a house party on the night of February 14 this year when a group of teens arrived uninvited.
Paekau and the other adults called the party off and told the teens to leave when a large fight broke out between partygoers.
Witnesses reported seeing partygoers attack each other with baseball bats and bits of timber.
During the skirmish, Paekau was struck by a flying beer bottle and required three stitches to the back of his head.
Paekau admitted assaulting the bottle-thrower in retaliation.
