Boys and their toys - it was the ultimate day out
Relevant offers
Mystery Creek was like a giant holiday camp for males over the weekend.
There was something for everyone at Boys Day Out, as displays of machinery, gadgetry and the obligatory bikini competition, vied for attention with supercar simulators, jetskis, karts, archery, paintball, motorbikes, hot rods, martial arts displays, beer gardens and live bands.
Thousands attended over the two days, with special features including extreme rally racing, skate and BMX displays, a car drifting demonstration, and the North Island's "Sexist Car Competition", as voted on by the public.
The supercar simulator was one of the most popular attractions, and as close as most people will get to racing a V8.
The car interior is fitted out with race seats and full roll cage, while "drivers" are in total control, doing all the steering, braking and accelerating, and feeling the car's movement.
Meanwhile, the Mystery Creek rally car track was utilised by eight of New Zealand's best rally drivers in a head-turning extreme rally event.
