An Auckland animal rights protestor who chained himself to a silo at Waikato pig farm yesterday has pleaded not guilty to two charges in Hamilton District Court yesterday.

New Zealand Open Rescue member John Darroch, 22, appeared on charges of being unlawfully in a yard and wilful trespass.

He was remanded to re-appear in court next month.

Mr Darroch told the Waikato Times he was not sorry for his actions and would continue to fight the charges.

"Even if I get a conviction it's a small price to pay," he said.

Mr Darroch chained himself to an 8 metre silo at the Roto-O-Rangi Rd pig farm at 7.30am yesterday.

He was cut down by police with an angle grinder about 9pm.

He was protesting what he called the " inherently cruel" practise of pig farming.

New Zealand Open Rescue, which formed in 2006, want the Government to fix loopholes in the Animal Welfare Act which allowed Codes of Welfare to be implemented that did not meet the basic principles
