Students ahead of boobs parade

Forget Boobs on Bikes – men in heels were the crowd pleasers at Waikato Student Union's Love Your Breasts Day yesterday.
The union planned its own "PG" version of Boobs on Bikes, but had to cancel due to a lack of bicycles.
But that didn't stop the guys getting involved in the day's activities – organised to make women feel proud of their bodies.
About 100 students gathered at the campus' Village Green to watch eventual winner, biology student Iain McKinnon, strap on some sexy red heels and win the high-heel race. While he looked a natural in heels, Mr McKinnon swore he'd never worn them before.
Waikato Student Union women's officer Kate Magazinovic said Love Your Breasts Day was about having fun and empowering women.
Ms Magazinovic said she had nothing against Steve Crow's Boobs on Bikes parade which was to head down Hamilton's Victoria St about midday today.
"I think women should be able to express themselves and be proud of their bodies and if that's what these women [in the Boobs on Bikes Parade] are doing, then good on them."
However, if they were just doing it to "show off their tits" to men, then "I'm not for it".
Seven out of 10 Waikato Times readers who contacted the newspaper about today's Boobs parade were opposed to it. "Today's pornographer, tomorrow's paedophile," wrote Rosemary Crook.
"We try to teach our children morals and respect. How can they look up to adults if our police and our council let trash like this man, who is only doing it to advertise his pornographic show, have his parade down our main street?"
Joan Oddy called it a "sleazy event".
"Shame on you Mr Simcock for making no moral stand for our city – is it really of no interest to you whether it goes ahead or not? What a wishy-washy lot you councillors are if you will not say no to Mr Crow ..."
But Dee Robbins disagreed.
"As a woman and a mother (yes I have a daughter) I have no problem with the Boobs on Bikes parade. They are not going to have sexual intercourse as they go down the main street and what will be on display is no different from what you see on beaches around the world."
