Indoor centre at design stage
Relevant offers
A group has been set up to consider designs for the proposed indoor sport and events centre in Tokoroa.
The subcommittee will assess each design, with the successful contractor being appointed by the new South Waikato District Council. From 25 offers of interest, four companies have been shortlisted.
The centre will feature indoor netball/basketball courts, a room with a sprung floor and conference facilities. It was scaled back from original plans which included a town hall area, a new grandstand and permanent outdoor staging.
A Taupo consultancy firm had priced the proposed sports centre around $5.3 million.
At last week's SWDC community and assets committee meeting, councillors were presented with a report on whether public toilets and changing rooms for sportsground users should be included in the centre or as stand alone facilities.
