Man dies at Taharoa Sands site
A man died after crashing his ute at the Taharoa Iron Sands site.
But Te Kuiti sub area manager Senior Sergeant Rob Van Kalken said it appeared the man had a pre-existing medical condition which may have contributed to the incident on Taharoa Rd about 8.30am.
"We understand the driver was reversing his Toyota Hi-Lux ute on the industrial property when it struck an object. Given there are poor communications in the area it is not possible to establish what the contributing factors were in the crash however we understand the man had a pre-existing medical condition."
Mr Van Kalken said the incident was currently being treated as a sudden death.
He said the man's ute left the road and hit steel pipes and a metal structure in an iron sand pit area.
"The Waikato Serious Crash Unit is investigating the incident but because the death was at a work site and not on a road it is not being treated as a fatal road crash.
"Given the circumstances of today's incident the Department of Labour has been advised. The deceased was the only person in the vehicle at the time and the Coroner will determine the cause of his death."
