Vandals attack poll candidate's signs

Vandals have targeted the election hoardings of Hamilton East candidate Sue Moroney, attempting a play on words with her name.
The last two letters of Ms Moroney's surname have been scratched or cut out from a dozen of her signs just a week after they went up following the announcement of the election date by Prime Minister Helen Clark.
Announcing that Labour was "Moron" was clearly not the message Ms Moroney was going for but just as quick as the signs were vandalised, they were being repaired and replaced.
Ms Moroney dismissed the antics, which marred about 12 of her 40-odd signs, as "schoolboy" tactics.
"It's fairly juvenile behaviour and it seems quite systematic."
She said the number of signs attacked indicated a "level of organisation".
"We're still determined to run a clean election campaign but if others want to stoop to that level that's their call.
"It's nothing I haven't heard from 13-year-old schoolboys before," Ms Moroney said.
The repairs would cost money and Ms Moroney's supporters, who had fundraised for her campaign, were disappointed by the vandalism, she said.
"But it's not new to me and I just take it with a grain of salt." Ms Moroney is a list MP.
