Altrusa raises funds for hospice room

Waikato Altrusa clubs have raised $25,000 to pay for a family meeting room at the new hospice under construction in Hamilton.
Members from the Te Awamutu, Hamilton, Cambridge and Morrinsville Altrusa clubs raised the funds which were to be handed over to Hospice Waikato this week. The idea to fundraise for the Altrusa family meeting room came about when two members from the Te Awamutu Club were invited to attend a Waikato Hospice event in Te Awamutu.
Hospice CEO Elizabeth Bang also spoke to the club at one of their monthly meetings. This led to it approaching other Waikato clubs to get the ball rolling to raise $25,000 for the meeting room.
Fundraising kicked off with a special guest speaker evening at the Te Awamutu Museum. Rob Hamill spoke about his adventures and his work with the hospice. Te Awamutu raised funds through its annual home and garden ramble, Hamilton through a fashion show and garage sale, Cambridge through its trash and treasure stalls and by catering for rowing events, and Morrinsville through a raffle.
The Te Awamutu club will be providing material for children from the proceeds of the morning tea at their Garden Ramble on November 2.
It also provided information kits and books for the Children's Hospice Rainbow House, which is due for completion in about two weeks.
