Two climbers slipped 100m on ice on Mount Ruapehu and had to be rescued by helicopter this afternoon.
The rescue of the man and woman climbers took place at midday today.
The Youthtown Rescue Helicopter dropped off two alpine rescue climbers and a paramedic at 2400m to stabilise the injured climbers.
They were then airlifted to the Turoa ski field and the man, 20, was taken to Rotorua hospital for further treatment.
He suffered head and abdominal injuries, while the injured female climber had abdominal injuries.
The injured people were part of a group of 10 climbers scaling the south face of Ruapehu.
