Motorcyclist dies in SH1 crash
Police believe it may be some time before they determine the cause of a crash that killed a male motorcyclist on State Highway 1, at Rangiriri this morning.
The man was travelling south when the crash happened about 600m south of the Rangiriri pub at 7.55am.
Waikato road policing manager Inspector Leo Tooman said they do not believe any other vehicle was involved.
"Initial indications are the male rider, believed to be aged in his early seventies, has encountered some difficulties on his southbound BMW motorbike and fallen off the vehicle, suffering fatal injuries."
As investigators do not believe any other vehicle was involved in the incident police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, who hasn't already been interviewed, to contact the Huntly Police Station on 07 828 7560.
The southbound lane was closed for more than two hours as police serious crash unit investigated the scene, however both lanes are now open.
The BMW motorbike appears to be a type of touring bike. Small amounts of items the man was carrying lay around the crash scene.
