A man who used a bottle of booze to smash a 55-year-old a liquor store worker in the face is on the loose and police are asking the public to help find him.

The injuries were so severe the man needs ongoing hospital treatment.Detective Constable Laurie McMaster of the Matamata-Piako CIB said the incident happened at the Nottingham Castle Bottle Store on Studholme St Morrinsville about 6.35pm on August 6.

"At this time a 55-year-old male shop worker was by himself working in the store when a man entered and grabbed two bottles of liquor and attempted to leave without paying for them,‘‘ Ms McMaster said.

"When the shop worker attempted to stop him the offender smashed one of the bottles into the victims face causing significant facial injuries.’’

The offender fled in a dark coloured four wheel drive vehicle described as being similar to a Rav 4 with a registration number similar to UU8686.
