A major road on the Coromandel Peninsula will be closed from this afternoon to repair a dangerous slip which is now threatening motorists.
Thames Coromanel District Council staff believe the slip, above the Tapu-Coroglen Road, has the potential to slip further so roading contractors will carry out urgent remedial work from 2pm today.
TCDC communications manager Benjamin Day said due to the complex nature of the work there was no option but to close the road.
"We don't know how long it will take, so we can't yet tell you when we will have it open again, although we hope to have it open by Monday if not earlier," he said.
Our contractors will do everything they can to get the road back open as soon as possible.
We apologise for the inconvenience and thank motorists in advance for their understanding.
