Drunks arrested in city
"They were playing around like children boxing"MATT BOWEN
A group of drunks who have been sleeping rough on Collingwood St were arrested by police this morning and are now detoxing in custody.
Six people on the corner of Victoria and Collingwood Sts were arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.
Staff at a nearby restaurant said they arrived at work at 6.30am to find a group of six people outside the former Valley Club on Collingwood St, drunk and acting aggressively.
People first started sleeping in the abandoned balcony about two weeks ago. Initially there was one but more have since joined him.
The restaurant staff said the group were sometimes shouting at people who passed by and they had seen them urinate on the street.
"They were playing around like children boxing. I think one of them was even abused by the others. It's not nice to see in the CBD at 6.30 on a Monday morning."
Five were arrested initially at about 9am and police returned to arrest another one shortly after.
