Power has been cut in the Cambridge area and a driver was left trapped in his car after powerlines were brought down in a single car crash.
The incident happened at 12.45pm on Racecourse Rd leaving a large number of homes without power between Cambridge and Tamahere.
A St John spokesperson said the sole occupant of the vehicle, a man, walked away from the incident with no injuries after contractors secured power lines.
Power has been restored at many of the affected homes.
