Fire safety investigators will today investigate the cause of a suspicious fire that occurred in Tokoroa overnight.
Fire and police staff were called to a Clyde St property at approximately 1am after the occupants alerted them that the front door was on fire.
A fire service spokesman said it appeared the fire had started after something was pushed through the cat-flap.
‘‘Police have been involved in this issue before.’’
He said the occupants had managed to extinguish the flame by the time the emergency services arrived, but investigators would try to determine the cause of the fire today.
‘‘It was definitely a suspicious fire.’’
