A fire safety officer is investigating a suspicious fire that occurred in Tokoroa overnight.
The fire was started near the shops on Tokoroa’s Kelso St at approximately 3.30am.
Fire communications shift manager Scott Osmond said the fire, which appeared to have been started in a wheelie bin, was not a major one.
Firefighters had to stay at the scene for an hour-and-a-quarter for the arrival of South Waikato fire investigator Stu Craddock from Taupo.
Mr Osmond said the nearby shops escaped damage because the fire was contained.
