Plans for a Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers restaurant on the corner of the busy Greenwood St and Killarney Rd in Hamilton are a step closer to realisation after land use consent over access was issued.
Franchise holder Wendco was heading for an Environment Court hearing after Hamilton City Council imposed stringent conditions over access, but such a hearing has been averted after negotiations between the two parties.
"Wendco has accepted a restricition on right turns out of the site," Debra Stan-Barton, council planning guidance unit manager, said. "This is a very good result for everyone."
But Wendco is yet to submit plans for the building to the council.
No one from Wendco was available for comment but marketing manager Fay Stretch has previously told the Times the chain was in major expansion mode and Hamilton was a top priority for three restaurants. Wendco already has resource consent for another restaurant in Te Rapa.
