An eight-year-old girl who fell four metres off a balcony and landed on her face is now in a stable condition at Middlemore Hospital.
She was flown to hospital overnight for specialist trauma care overnight.
The Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance had been dispatched on a mission to Thames but was redirected to Whakatane when news of the girl's fall came in.
She sustained multiple fractures to her face and jaw and had to be transferred to Middlemore Hospital for specialist trauma care.
The accident occurred in Ohope during a camp at the local marae. She was accompanied on the flight by her father and attended to by a Waikato-based ICU transport team.
