Roading authorities hope to have an incident on State Highway 1 near Pokeno cleared by 11.30am.
A trailer carrying rubbish detached from a truck about 6.40am this morning and came to rest on it’s side, blocking one north bound lane, south of the Bombay Hills.
A spokesman from New Zealand Transport Agency said most of the rubbish had been cleared and traffic should be moving freely before lunchtime.Acting Inspector David Laumatia from Police Northern Communications said while south-bound traffic had not been affected by the incident, north-bound drivers were advised to ‘‘proceed with caution’’ as they passed the scene.
He said traffic management was in place to assist drivers with just one north-bound lane open.
Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said no one was injured in the incident which he described as "lucky" given the volume of traffic that flows through the area.
The cause of the crash is not currently known, but will be investigated.
