Attempted robber denied bail
A man who allegedly attempted to rob a dairy owner before hitching a ride with a member of the public was further remanded in custody after appearing in Hamilton District Court today.
Ricky Afele, 25, is alleged to have tried to rob the Manhattan Pricecutter on Grey St, Hamilton East on Friday.
He allegedly entered the store, passed over a note and attempted to gain access to the till.
He was unsuccessful and fled the store, heading towards the drive-thru of a nearby fast food restaurant where he approached a woman to give him a ride.
Thinking she was helping someone in need she gave him a ride and unwittingly became involved in the resulting police response, police said today.
Afele will reappear in court in November.
