Hunt for sex offender
A sex offender targeting young girls is wanted by police after he exposed himself and committed indecent acts in public.
East Hamilton community constable Craig Aplin said officers have been investigating two incidents that happened on the afternoon of Saturday, October 6, during the school holidays.
The first incident happened at Hillcrest Normal School and the second at Jansen Park in Silverdale.
''The offender has targeted two 11-year-old girls and two other girls aged 12 and 13 years old. It appears the man approached children in the playgrounds of the school and park, exposed himself and then [carried out] an indecent act,'' Mr Aplin said.
''Fortunately for our victims there was a church group at the school and when the adults raised the alarm and went to investigate, the offender fled.''
He said the degree of planning that went into the man's attack was concerning.
''Speaking to people after the event and reviewing security camera footage it appears the man carried out a thorough reconnaissance of the area before approaching the girls.
''Following the indecent act he has followed the children when they fled, until the adults the children ran to for help came to investigate what has been going on.''
The offender is described as a Caucasian man in his late 20s to early 30s, about 179cm tall, of medium build, with short brown hair.
He may also have a crooked front tooth and a dimple on his right cheek.
''If you recognise the description, were in the area at the time and noticed anything untoward or recognise the man in the photo, please make contact with the police.''
