Mastin to open NZ tour in Hamilton
Australian pop star Reece Mastin would welcome the chance to appear on the New Zealand version of the show that shot him to stardom in 2011.
Mastin, 17, told the Waikato Times he ''would definitely love to appear'' on the The X-Factor New Zealand, due for production next year.
''I haven't been approached to go on the show, but sure I would definitely love to appear,'' he said.
Mastin was in New Zealand this week for a whirlwind visit to promote his 2013 nationwide tour kicking off in Hamilton on Valentines Day, February 14, at Founders Theatre.
And Mastin could be joined by his new love interest, Home and Away actress, Rhiannon Fish.
''She comes with me when she's not working, so we'll see,'' he said.
Mastin and Fish have recently moved in together in Sydney. The pair met when Fish was cast to play Mastin's love affair in his Shout It Out music clip.
So it doesn't surprise when Mastin rated the production as his ''favourite'' so far.
Mastin, who will turn 18 on November 24, said he enjoys putting his own ideas forward for his music videos.
''Absolutely, I love being behind the creatives as well.''
And while he doesn't have a favourite designer or clothes brand, he also takes responsibility for his wardrobe.
''I'm a jacket man, I have hundreds - it is my favourite article of clothing.''
So far Mastin is taking his meteoric rise to stardom in his stride saying he wouldn't change anything about his extremely public life, though prior to landing in New Zealand, Mastin made a stunning revelation about cyberbullying in Perth.
Mastin told WA Today that after winning series three of The X-Factor Australia, he'd been forced to bear the brunt of abuse on Twitter and encouraged those who suffered similarly not to engage their attackers.
"I'd love to show them what they've actually done to people because this kind of stuff's taken people's lives. It's made people's lives hell,'' he said.
Mastin, who has 168,000 followers on Twitter and receives around 110 tweets per minute, said he was advised early on not to reply to naysayers.
Which is something Kiwi contenders for The X-Factor New Zealand may want to consider, according to Mastin, who has a word of advice for future rock star wannabes.
''If you get the chance to audition, give it everything, take the opportunity and make it your own,'' he said.
Mastin's 2013 New Zealand tour will feature music from his recently released album Beautiful Nightmare.
Tickets for all shows will go on sale on Monday November 19.
