Tokoroa school teacher Raylene Sommerville has become only the third person in New Zealand to receive an AFS award for outstanding volunteer service.
Mrs Sommerville, a senior teacher at Forest View High School, was honoured with the Gallatti Award - the highest international award for volunteers within the AFS worldwide programme.
AFS is a program through which students are able to spend varying lengths of time studying in other countries while being hosted by families.
