The National Line Mechanic competition kicked off at Mystery Creek yesterday.

The three-day contest, which began on Wednesday, saw linesmen from throughout New Zealand carry out a range of tasks including erecting power lines, digging trenches and installing a 11,000-volt transformer.

Competitors were judged on whether they met industry standards. The winning team were from Waikato Electricity.
