Thunderstorms could still crack over the Waikato today and MetService isn't ruling out the possibility of further small tornadoes.
Thunderstorm warnings were lifted for the region at 6pm last night, but forecaster Andy Downs said heavy rain, strong winds and hail is predicted for the west coast, from Auckland to Kapati, this afternoon.
"There's still a slight risk ... of small tornadoes, but I don't think on the same scale of the one we saw in Auckland."
Conditions should clear up on Saturday.
