One of the three men killed during a tornado that tore through west Auckland yesterday was Tuakau resident Keith Langford.

The two others who died at a school building site are Tom Stowers, 42, and Brendon Johnson, 22, both of Massey.

Mr Langford was 60 years old.

It is understood at least two of the men died when a giant concrete slab toppled onto a work truck, crushing those inside.

Several other workers at the site were injured when the tornado struck a one-kilometre zone in Hobsonville at 12.30pm, causing widespread damage and leaving 250 people displaced.

A police cordon is still in place at the school where the construction workers were killed.

Police have offered their condolences to the families of the three men.
