A man who was evading police following a domestic dispute in Te Awamutu was arrested when he ran straight into the side of a patrol car.

Police were called to a central Te Awamutu house at about 1:40pm today following reports of a domestic dispute between a man, aged 37, and a woman.

Senior sergeant Dave Simes said when police arrived the man was seen driving away in  a car.

‘‘We worked out who it was and at that point established he was a disqualified driver and he had warrants to arrest.’’

There was a short pursuit through the town before the man’s tyres were spiked.

‘‘He attempted to drive the vehicle a short distance but didn’t travel very far on the rims.’’

He abandoned the car and dashed through a few properties before running into the side of a police car parked on Mangapiko St.

He was arrested and will appear in the Hamilton District Court tomorrow charged with driving while disqualified, failing to stop, and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

Too elitist

Ticket prices were too high

A gala ball is an outdated celebration

I thought it was a great idea

I don't care about the city's 150th celebrations

I didn't know about it
