Waikato University has won two of six 2012 Teaching and Learning Research Initiative projects, and is working on a third.
Dr Brenda Bicknell and associate professor Jenny Young-Loveridge were awarded $130,000 to research how multiplication and division help children's understanding and appreciation of numbers.
Dr Elaine Khoo was awarded $130,000 to investigate software literacy, and how it affects teaching, learning, and knowledge in engineering and media studies, and Dr Margaret Franken got $200,000 to look at how teachers can meet the needs of 21st century learners.
