Two dramatic surf lifesaving rescues in the Waikato have been announced top in their regions and one was top in the country in BP's December Rescue of the Month.
The country's top rescue made national headlines when a pair of 12-year-old boys, enjoying their Christmas holidays, saved a man's life by pulling him from a rip in Waihi.
The boys, William White and his cousin, Sergio Schuler, saw the man with his hand raised and swam to his rescue, and there was "no doubt" they saved the man's life.
A team rescue at Sunset Beach at Port Waikato won in the Northern Region, after the crew's fast action saved the lives of a father and his two daughters, who got stuck in a rip on New Year's Eve.
