Two family members tried desperately to save the life of a 32-year-old relative who died while lying beside his motorbike at a popular off-road track in the Kaimai Range yesterday.
The accident happened about 1pm at the start of Thompson's Track, 12km south of Te Aroha.
Police, ambulance and the Westpac Waikato Rescue Helicopter attended, but the rider died at the scene.
The accident is under investigation by the Serious Crash Unit and has been referred to the coroner.
