A 16-year-old boy will face court today following the stabbing of a man, 23, in his eastern Waikato home overnight.

Thames Police  sub-area manager, Senior Sergeant Graham Shields, said emergency services were called to a Matatoki address about 5pm Monday after reports  a man had suffered serious injuries in an assault.

"Ambulance staff attended the 23-year-old victim's injuries and the man was taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance with serious injuries and we understand he is in a stable condition in the hospital's High Dependency Unit,” he said.

"Police officers conducting follow up enquiries located a 16-year-old male nearby a short time later and he will be appear in the Hamilton Youth Court today facing a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm."
