Ex-AB Keith Robinson sentenced for assault

Former All Black Keith Robinson has been sentenced to 300 hours community work and nine month's supervision after admitting assaulting a man during a pub crawl in Te Aroha last year.

Appearing before Judge Weir in the Rotorua District Court today Robinson was also ordered to pay $1000 reparation to his victim and to complete an anger management court, of which he is already voluntarily enrolled in.

Judge Weir had postponed the sentencing from Wednesday after receiving conflicting evidence from police.

Robinson, 37, pleaded guilty to a charge of injuring with intent to injure in the Hamilton District Court on December 20 after an incident outside The Palace Hotel in Te Aroha earlier that month.

Judge Weir described the whole affair as "unsatisfactory" after receiving conflicting evidence from police including the summary of facts which differed completely from the notes of an officer who attended the scene.

The victim's stance had also completely changed, from not wanting to prosecute and saying he deserved it to pursuing the charges.

The information was still not clarified when Robinson's matter was called before the judge again this afternoon, with police refusing to change their summary of facts.

Judge Weir said he had to adopt a middle ground as he wanted to deal with the matter today, in fairness to Robinson.
