Waipa District Council has slashed $80,000 from its 2013/14 budget, bringing the proposed rates rise down to 3.3 per cent.
The council's draft annual plan, seeking a 3.3 per cent increase instead of the 4.7 per cent forecast in the 10-year plan, will go before councillors on February 26 before going out for public consultation on March 5.
The 1.4 per cent reduction in the rise follows a year-long review of council budgets.
