RIVERSIDE VIEW: Designers were told to create an international hotel inside and out.

The architects of SkyCity Hamilton's planned $35 million hotel were told to aim for an international image, and they have achieved that in the design unveiled today, says the entertainment group.

More than 220 guests at a business breakfast celebrating the CBD's current building bonanza got their first sight of the 4.5 star riverfront hotel, to be built over the existing conference centre complex.

SkyCity presenter Ross Hargood said the designers were told to create an international hotel inside and out.

The hotel, which will have 135 rooms, 11 suites and a presidential suite, a heated pool and gym, will create jobs for 100 people.

Building should start in June with opening day scheduled for early 2015, but hopefully late next year, Mr Hargood told the gathering of commercial property investors, developers, and support sector specialists. Tenders would be called soon, he said.

The old ANZ Bank and Nandos buildings on Victoria St acquired by SkyCity to round off its site, would be demolished in the next few months.Plans for the vacant space created had yet to be finalised, Mr Hargood said.

The breakfast presentations by six CBD project developers was organised by the Hamilton Central Business Association. The event at SkyCity was so popular it had a waiting list of 40, because of a space shortage.
