The stork is again visiting the Waikato with birthrates crawling back upward following big slump in recent years.
Figures released by Statistics NZ today show there were 6050 live births in the Waikato in 2012.
This is up from the 5916 recorded in 2011, but still well down on the 6324 babies delivered in 2010.
The median age of mothers nationally remained the same as 2011 at 30 years old.
The number of deaths in the Waikato dropped slightly last year to 2931 compared to 2936 the year before.
Nationally there were 61,178 live births compared to 30,099 deaths. The median age at death was 77.6 for men and 83.5 for women.
