Hamilton politicians have rejected a move to trim planned rates increases next year by skimming $1.7 million from salary and wage budgets.

Instead, they propose boosting the council's remuneration pool by 3.2 per cent.

Councillor Roger Hennebry had moved that the remuneration increase be pared back to 1 per cent.
