Taupo firefighters have put out a blaze caused by exploding sawdust at a Rotokawa wood pellet plant tonight.
Twelve fire engines were called to the fire at the Nature’s Flame building north of Taupo just before 9pm, fire communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said.
Taupo fire station officer Graeme Trainor said two plant operators were on-site when the fire started within the plant's silos and ducting.
The pair stopped the machinery, activated the fire alarm, and evacuated the building. No-one was hurt in the blaze.
Mr Trainor said the fire, contained within the plant's machinery, had not caused any physical damage to the building itself, though he expected the plant to be out of commission for several days.
