Wild weather arrives in Waikato
Wild weather that wreaked havoc on its way up the country has arrived in the Waikato today.
Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast across the region, but the storm front was weakening, MetService meteorologist Daniel Corbett said.
''But it's a good dollop of rain that will make its way across much of Waikato.
''You're in to the rain for a good part of the day.''
He said the region would also experience strong winds, particularly on the West Coast, but the bad weather was expected to clear this evening.
''It's a good day for the ducks, they'll be smiling for the first part of the day. But by the afternoon they'll be watching the rain clear away and then we all get to enjoy some drier weather too.''
Meanwhile, trucks were blown off roads, trees were toppled, power was cut and Wellington Airport was almost brought to its knees as furious winds tore through Wellington and Wairarapa yesterday.
