One injured in quad bike crash
A man suffered serious injuries when a quad bike rolled on a private farm this morning.
Emergency services responded to the scene on Marotiri Rd, near Taupo, at about 5.20am and the patient, in his 40s, landed at Waikato Hospital just after 8am.
Northern fire service communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said the incident happened on a private farm.
The Mangakino Volunteer Fire Brigade set up a landing pad for the Rotorua-based BayTrust Rescue Helicopter and assisted ambulance with the patient.
St John northern communications team leader Norm Ngatai said staff had to walk about 70 metres to reach the man who was in a serious condition after he rolled a four wheel motorbike.
Mr Ngatai said on crew arrival the man was in a serious condition with bleeding from the ear and back pain.
A helicopter was requested and the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter responded from Rotorua.
The man was transferred to the hospital's Emergency Department for treatment.
